UI and HUD scaling

On Apple TV, the UI, HUD computer etc are all scaled to a percentage of the screen resolution, so the buttons, text etc are easily readable across all resolutions. I’ve noticed since switching to the Windows version these elements appear to be hard-coded at specific sizes, so when viewing on a 4K screen, the UI buttons, text, HUD computer/data panel etc are so small you can hardly read them (even with cycle computer on largest size). It would be a big UX win to standardise the sizing across all platforms and implement whatever the ATV version is doing to size its elements.

Adding a couple of images, top one is at 1080, bottom one at 4k so you can see how small the UI is at 4k.

Updating my comment about HUD size, I calculate the distance from my handlebars to the HUD on my screen. The smaller data numbers have height with an angular size a bit over 5 times the minimum resolution of the human eye (~1 arc minute). The width of those same numbers has an angular size about 1.5 times that 1 arc minute resolution. It’s worth that 1 arc minute resolution allows the eye to detect an object, or number in this case, is there. Generally, we assume that good resolution of details requires an angular size on the order of 10 times the minimum resolution. I cannot resolve the the lateral separation of numbers. That means I can’t read any of those numbers. Again, these smaller data numbers in the HUD.

I cannot decrease the distance between by screen and my bike by a factor of two. I have to assume that there others that either have a similar distance to the screen or eyesight that isn’t perfect and thus can’t see this smaller numbers. I also know I’ve mentioned this before, and I’m pretty certain others have too. I’m not sure why this isn’t a simple upgrade—having a larger size HUD available—to make.

On related note, I’ve found the HUD to be pretty small on my 27” iMac 5k screen. Yes, the larger numbers in each field can be read, but the smaller numbers cannot be read….and I just I had my optical prescription and new lenses installed within the last 3 weeks. Right now my iMac is about 6 ft from my bike handlebars.
