Filming New Rides

I would appreciate some guidance on filming for FG going forward. Previously it seems that most well-filmed rides would eventually be accepted, but now with the limited number of rides per month, how will we know if we are just wasting our time? For example, my wife and I have a vacation trip planned where we’ve already done some scheduling so I can film a favorite route or two while we’re in the area. How should we proceed if the acceptance parameters are not clear? Should I contact Peter and ask if my proposed route sounds like it’s interesting enough to make it onto FG?

If you do have any further questions before your trip, please do reach out to Peter and he will provide any updated technical guidance for filming. 🙂

    Hi Doug,

    Thx for your note.

    We’re doing two things:

1 Tightening up the acceptance criteria for the technical aspects of the filming. Whereas previously we would have the bandwidth to fix poorly-filmed rides (wonky camera, missing elevation data at the start of rides, missing footage at stops, riding too fast and recording out-of-sync GPS data, stable and in the saddle rather than swaying and out of the saddle, etc), and more accepting of rides with a smeared lens, persistent rain drops, poor lighting, that is no longer so easy with our new, smaller-than-before Rouvy Fulgaz team

2 Trying to avoid adding “more of the same” rides to our library, including “every ride I could possibly think of from this area and they all look the same as each other”.

In summary, we’re shifting towards “maximum wow” rather than maximum volume. Please go ahead and film your rides and then make your own subjective judgement about whether they meet these broad criteria (and whether a Fulgaz’er would enjoy them once they are in the App). If you have a collection of rides to submit, please order/prioritize them from “maximum wow” to “least wow” to guide our resourcing, recognizing that “least wow” rides might not make it.
